Pharrell’s new website pharrellwilliams.com is coming soon along with his first solo album due out November 15th entitled In My Mind. Pharrell will be taking on a new alter ego called "Skateboard P." I guess it’s his new rapper nickname, since the new album is supposed to be about half rap, half R & B. But unlike P Diddy, I doubt he’ll really care if anyone calls him by his new name. You better believe I’m looking forward to both. Here’s an excerpt from a recent article in Complex magazine about the new album:
Q: You’re solo album is half rap, and you’ve been popping up on more guest verses lately. Did you always want to rhyme?
A: It’s all a form of expression. I don’t really think I can sing, I don’t really think I can rhyme. I’m just expressing myself. I’m saying whatever comes out of my mind, whatever comes out of my mouth. It’s more like a diary. ‘Cause before, when I used to rap-rap, I looked at it like, "Niggas is gonna go crazy when they hear this." Now it’s not about that. Now it’s more about self-expression. It’s really more art than anything else. I’m at another point of my life where I’m trying to practice being non-judgemental and being pro art.

I know Pharrell has called himself that before. In “Drop it like it’s hot,” he says, “You should think about it, take a second Matter fact, you should take four B And think before you f*** wit lil skateboard P.”
So anyway, his name’s nothing new

Good point Marissa…I guess he did first mention it in that song. But maybe at that point it was nothing more than a cute lyric…now he wants everyone to know that he’s embraced it. It must have something to do with that huge Jacob the Jeweler’s skateboard he has hanging around his neck all the time. I don’t really know if I like the name, but it’s definitely unique…and Pharrell is very good at finding ways to be unique.

Pharrell’s nickname “Skateboard P” comes from the fact that he has been skateboarding for sometime now, probably since he was a young boy, and now since he’s gained a descent amount of fame, he can present the kind of image that he wants to associate with himself. He even went so far as to sponsor the Ice Cream Skate Team. So skating has been “In His Mind” for some time, now he’s just letting it out.
